New Check-Secure control unit with small footprint.

iSeries document automation specialist inFORM Decisions (www.informdecisions.com) has just unveiled version 2.0 of Check-SecureTM. Check-Secure is a powerful and easy to implement security enhancement for laser MICR check printing operations where access to signatures and MICR fonts must be carefully guarded.

Check-Secure accomplishes this by storing confidential information on portable flash memory cards. Sensitive data becomes accessible only when the Check-Secure flash memory card is inserted into the compatible control unit. Once the desired checks or documents are printed, the memory card can be removed and stored in a safe place.

Check-Secure, now in version 2.0, has been enhanced in ways that make it more powerful and convenient to use. First, its memory card capacity has increased from 1MB to 8GB. Now hundreds of thousands of sensitive digitized documents, signatures, and logos can be stored on one memory card.

This means Check-Secure can be used as a simple external document storage device whether security is a primary concern or not. Thousands of documents can be stored at the printer level, therein relieving host/server storage space and processing capacity issues.

In v. 2.0 the size of Check-Secure's control unit has a decreased by over 50%, so it occupies less space near the printer. The new controller's footprint is roughly five inches wide, four inches deep and only one and one-half inches tall. Flame retardant, impact resistant ABS plastic improves its durability and reliability. The Check-Secure control unit can be connected to any laser printer's parallel port, and will soon support a USB and Ethernet connections.

The Check-Secure programming software resides on a separate PC allowing the user, with password control, to modify and load the sensitive resources - signature, logos, fonts, etc. - onto the memory cards. This allows organizations that use the product to access and maintain the classified data that resides on the card without the vendor's assistance.

Since most companies have several check and document formats, Check-Secure can detect the type of document being printed and apply the appropriate document overlay, signature, MICR information, logo or other printing resource needed for that print run. A single memory card key can be used in several Check-Secure control units for multiple locations. Check-Secure works with most popular laser printers, including those made by Hewlett Packard, Lexmark, Xerox, IBM, Toshiba, Ricoh, Canon, and other companies.

Crimes involving check fraud cost companies millions of dollars each year. inFORM Decisions first launched Check-Secure v. 1.0 in 1997 to address the growing need for increased security over electronic check printing. The complete Check-Secure 2.0 system includes the control unit, cables to connect it to the printer and PC, a flash memory card, and the Check-Secure programming software.
